Beethoven's Belated Birthday Bash
The artistry of violinist Liana Bérubé is inextricably intertwined with self-knowledge and self-compassion. Her openly expressive aesthetic, described as “searching mastery”, has been heard in North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia. She is co-founder and violinist of the Delphi Trio. Concerto performances include appearances with Thirteen Strings Chamber Orchestra, Sinfonia Toronto, Bear Valley Music Festival Orchestra, Oakland Symphony, Eureka Symphony, San Jose Chamber Orchestra, and San Francisco Chamber Orchestra. She has been heard on NPR, CBC, VH1, WFMT Chicago, and Dutch Radio 4, and has collaborated with artists such as Emmanuel Ax, and the Alexander String Quartet. Concert appearances include Chamber Music Concerts Ashland, Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival, Orlando Festival, Artist Series of Sarasota, Kronos Festival, Valley of the Moon Music Festival, the Verbier Festival, and the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival. Liana strongly believes in listening to intuition, subconscious, and instinct, in order to express the innate knowledge of personal truth through art.
Terrie Baune is concertmaster of the Eureka Symphony and the North State Symphony, and co-concertmaster of the Oakland Symphony. She is a member of the professional new-music ensemble Earplay and Associate Director of the Humboldt Chamber Music Workshop. Terrie's professional credits include four years as a member of the National Symphony of Washington DC and two years as a member of the Auckland Philharmonia of New Zealand, where she also performed with the Gabrielli Trio, a New Zealand National Ensemble. She has held concertmaster positions with the Fresno Philharmonic, the Santa Cruz County Symphony, and the Rohnert Park Symphony, and has performed as concertmaster with many other orchestras including the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra, El Paso Opera, and the Santa Rosa Symphony. For over twenty years Terrie was concertmaster of The Women's Philharmonic, during which time she participated in over a hundred premieres, made several recordings, including one as soloist in the Maddalena Lombardini Violin Concerto #5, and as soloist in the world premiere of Chen Yi's Chinese Folk Dance Suite for Violin and Orchestra, commissioned for her. Well known for her work with living composers, Terrie has had solo pieces written for her by Pablo Ortiz, Richard Festinger, Ross Bauer, and many others. Most recently she toured a Libby Larson concerto, a world premiere. Terrie graduated from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music with a Bachelor of Music degree, having won the Oberlin Concerto Competition and Grand Prize at the Fischoff Chamber Music Competition.
Kimberly Fitch holds a Bachelor of Music from the Eastman School of Music, and Master of Music in Viola Performance from UC Santa Barbara. Fitch studied with world-renowned teachers in the United States and Europe. As scholarship recipient, she attended the Aspen Music Festival, Fontainebleau Schools in France, The Britt Institute with the Cavani and Pacifica Quartets, Soundfest Quartet Institute with the Colorado Quartet, and the Port Townsend Chamber Music Festival with the Tokyo Quartet. Solo appearances include the Carl Stamitz Viola Concerto with the Rogue Valley Symphony in Ashland and the Bartok Viola Concerto Competition with the University Symphony Orchestra in Santa Barbara as a first place winner. Fitch performed and coached for the Oregon Shakespeare Festival’s 2014 production of Into the Woods, as a violinist in the 2015 world-premier musical, Head Over Heels, in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast , and actor, dancer and klezmer in Paula Vogel’s Indecent . Kimberly lives in Pasadena.
Carson McHaney began his musical life playing fiddle music at folk festivals as well as exploring his classical music interests in his hometown of Arcata, California. He is currently pursuing violin performance with Professor David Bowlin at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music in Ohio. Before coming to Oberlin, Carson studied under Terrie Baune and played in the North State Symphony, the Eureka Symphony, and was concertmaster of the ArMack Orchestra. In 2015 Carson was the first prize winner of the Eureka Symphony’s youth competition, and performed the first movement of Prokofiev’s violin concerto no. 2 with the orchestra. Carson has always found great joy in performing chamber music and playing in many different types of ensembles; including a Klezmer group and a performance improvisation combo at Oberlin. His other interests include sketching, running, and cooking with friends. Carson plays a 1740 Camillo Camilli violin.
